eGenix Web Installer Test Package

Project description

eGenix Web Installer Test Package

This is a test package for the eGenix Web Installer that comes with the latest mxSetup module, the distutils/setuptools add-on we have been using to distribute our packages since 2004. mxSetup.py is included in in this package.

Automatic Binary Installation

The test package will install mxDateTime using a source package which dynamically downloads and runs a precompiled binary package for the installation platform. mxDateTime uses a Python C extension, so normally requires a working compiler environment for the installation.

The test package also supports fallback to the source package and compilation using a compiler, in case no suitable binary package can be found.

Downloads are safe, since the web installer verifies the downloads before using them based on MD5, SHA1, SHA256 and size.

Note that the test package only includes the bare minimum to run the web installer and provide meta-data to installers such as easy_install, zc.buildout and pip. It does not include any binaries or the source code of the package it is meant to install.

Compatibility

The test package should be compatible with:

  • Python 2.5 - 2.7

  • easy_install, pip and zc.buildout

  • manual “python setup.py install”

  • Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, FreeBSD

More documentation will follow as we make progress with the web installer.
