# Lexi Main repository for all data analysis related to LEXI.
## Installation Guide
This guide will walk you through the installation process for lexi.
We strongly recommend using a virtual environment to install lexi to avoid conflicts with other Python packages on your system.
### Creating a Virtual Environment A virtual environment is a self-contained directory tree that contains a specific Python installation and its associated packages.
#### Using python3 1. Navigate to the desired directory (e.g., Documents/lexi). 2. Create a virtual environment named lexi_venv: `bash python3 -m venv lexi_venv ` 3. Activate the virtual environment: - Linux/MacOS: `bash source lexi_venv/bin/activate ` - Windows: `bash .\lexi_venv\Scripts\activate ` 4. Deactivate the virtual environment (when done): `bash deactivate `
### Installing Lexi
#### Installing from Source 1. After activating your virtual environment, install lexi from GitHub: `bash pip install git+https://github.com/Lexi-BU/lexi `
#### Installing from a Local Copy 1. Download the lexi-version.tar.gz file from [Download LEXI Software](https://lexi-bu.github.io/software/dist/lexi-0.0.1.tar.gz). 2. Place the file in the desired directory (e.g., Documents/lexi). 3. Install it: `bash pip install lexi-version.tar.gz `
### Verifying the Installation 1. Verify the installation using: `bash pip show lexi ` Example output: ` Name: lexi Version: 0.0.1 Summary: Main repository for all data analysis related to LEXI Author: qudsiramiz Author-email: qudsiramiz@gmail.com License: GNU GPLv3 Requires: cdflib, matplotlib, pandas, pytest, toml `
2. Alternatively, check installed packages: `bash pip list ` Example output: `bash Package Version --------------- ------- lexi 0.0.1 matplotlib 3.8.2 pandas 1.5.3 `
3. Verify functionality in Python: `python >>> import lexi >>> lexi.__version__ '0.0.1' `

## Using LEXI Software
### Example Jupyter Notebook 1. Download the example folder from [Download LEXI Examples](https://lexi-bu.github.io/software/examples.zip) and extract it. 2. Activate your virtual environment. 3. Install Jupyter Notebook: `bash pip install jupyter ` 4. Open the tutorial notebook: `bash jupyter notebook lexi_tutorial.ipynb ` 5. Follow the steps in the notebook to learn how to use lexi.
