Palabra is a free crossword editor with a focus on professional crossword development.

History

Palabra 0.1.5 provides a basic crossword editor with the following features:

  • Store puzzles in the open XPF crossword file format (see http://www.xwordinfo.com/XPF/ ).

  • Export to PDF and PNG.

  • Various grid editing options, such as symmetry, adding and removing rows/columns, and moving content left/right/up/down.

  • Adding and editing of clues.

  • View puzzle properties, such as statistics and metadata.

  • Visual warnings for unchecked cells, consecutive unchecked cells and two-letter words.

  • Insert words using the default wordlist of Ubuntu (/usr/share/dict/words). Future versions will allow you to configure wordlists yourself.
