Project description

vapourtec

An unofficial package to control Vapourtec products; we are not affliated with Vapourtec.

Supported devices:

Requires Windows operating system.

SF10 reagent pump

https://www.vapourtec.com/products/sf-10-pump-features/

Hardware check

The SF10 connects to a computer using a Serial cable. It is possible to use a Serial to USB converter to connect to the computer via USB.

The SF10 pump should have firmware v1.8 installed on it. To update the firmware on the pump, the file to update the pump must be on a USB stick and used to update the pump.

Remote control must also be enabled on the pump. To check this, use some software to communicate with the pump with RS-232. During development the program Termite was used. Connect to the pump in the program and send the following command to enable remote control of the pump: REMOTEEN vtec 1. You should receive an OK back from the pump if successful. This only has to be done once.

Once this is done, you can send the GV command to check the firmware version on the pump, and send REMOTEEN again to check that remote control is enabled

Getting started/example script

Check the examples folder for example script on how to use the SF10 module.

To connect to the pump in Python, you need to know the comport of the pump when it is connected to the computer. To know this, before plugging the pump into the computer open the Windows Device Manager program and expand Ports. Then plug in the pump and see what new port appears, e.g. COM6. This is what you will use to create the SF10 instance in Python to connect to and control the pump.

Graphical User Interface

A basic GUI is provided for simple control of a SF10 pump. To run this, you can run the main.py file in the gui/sf10 folder in Python. Or you can launch the standalone Windows executable (.exe) file without needing to use Python.

Serial settings and protocols

These are the settings and protocols from the manual.

Connection settings according to the manual are

Protocols are:
If a recognized command was sent to the pump OK will be sent back.
OK will still be sent back even if numerical parameters are out of
range and sent to the pump, even though the pump may not change to the set value.
Note that setting a value out of range causes the default parameter to be used.

Frequently asked questions

I followed the instructions but am still unable to connect to/control the pump

Check using the physical buttons and display on the pump that firmware 1.8 is installed and go through the Hardware check section again. If The firmware is up to date but there are issues communicating with the pump using Termite, try using a different cable to connect the pump to the computer.
