A “dogpile” lock, one which allows a single thread to generate an expensive resource while other threads use the “old” value, until the “new” value is ready.
note that dogpile is renaming itself to dogpile.core for version 0.3. Head on over to http://pypi.python.org/pypi/dogpile.core to read about dogpile.core.
