Main features
plotextdraws its plots inside the terminal, as colored text, and its installation needs nothing beside itself; only pictures and videos ask for the optional extras.- Basic plots: scatter, line and stem, each returning a signal you configure and then draw.
- Bars: simple, labeled, floating, multiple and stacked, with histograms and box plots.
- Specialized plots: error bars, event plots, heatmaps, confusion matrices and indicators.
- Shapes and text: rectangles, polygons, segments and lines in five line styles, plus text written anywhere on the plot.
- Dates: a date and time axis, and the candlestick chart of financial prices.
- Media: pictures, gifs and video with its sound, YouTube included.
- Live plots: streaming that redraws in place, and text animated by a moving effect.
- Plot settings: the size, the title and labels, the rulers and their ticks, the axes, the canvas and its legend, twelve themes and your own.
- Subplots: a grid of plots, each panel holding a grid of its own, to any number of levels, and each with its own size, theme and settings.
- Higher resolution: markers splitting each character into a grid of sub-points, fitting four to eight times the data in the same space.
- Colored primitives: the pixel holding a color pair and a style, colored strings, the matrix of colored characters a plot is made of, and the marker drawn at each point.
- Terminal: read its size, clear it, and catch a key press without waiting.
- Tools: test data, a file toolkit, a command line tool drawing a plot with no Python written, pretty docstrings browsable in a menu, and recipes for other packages.

This project is under active development.
AI helped speed up the writing and polishing, particularly of the repetitive parts of the code, the documentation and the issue replies, in the last months of version 6.
