Custom Widgets Pro — PyPI pointer
Custom Widgets Pro is a commercial package. It is distributed to licence holders from customwidgets.org, not from PyPI.
This directory builds the small pointer package that occupies the PyPI name. Installing it does not give you Pro — it tells you where Pro comes from.
Why this exists
Publishing the real wheel on public PyPI meant anyone could install it and use
every Pro widget without paying: the entitlement check only warns, by design, so
eval and CI stay importable. A licence check inside a freely downloadable
artifact is not a paywall. The real wheel is now served by
GET /api/downloads/pro-wheel, behind an active licence.
Versioning rule (important)
The pointer must always be lower than the real wheel:
PyPI pointer 1.1.1
gated wheel 1.2.0
A licence holder who installs the real 1.2.0 and later runs
pip install --upgrade QT-PyQt-PySide-Custom-Widgets-Pro must NOT be pulled
back to the pointer. Because PyPI's highest version stays below the gated one,
pip sees nothing newer and leaves the real install alone. Keep it that way: when
you ship a new gated wheel, bump it above the pointer, not level with it.
Build
python -m build --wheel # run inside pointer/
