advent-prompt-pwn
advent-prompt-pwn is an engagement-oriented Python toolkit for reproducible, authorized security testing of language models and AI applications. It combines explicit target scope, bounded execution, composable attack strategies, deterministic success oracles, resumable checkpoints, and integrity-verifiable evidence bundles.
The project is maintained by Advent Cybersecurity.
Release status: version 1.0.0 is the first public release and is qualified for authorized engagement use.

An oracle success means its configured adversarial objective was observed. It is evidence for professional review, not an automatic vulnerability severity decision.
Installation
Python 3.10 or newer is required. Install from PyPI:

The distribution and CLI use hyphens. Python imports use underscores:

Engagement quickstart
Create a safe local manifest and synthetic corpus:

Review engagement.yaml, confirm the authorization reference and limits, then preflight it without contacting the target:

If the manifest names credential environment variables, approve each name independently at execution time. A shared manifest cannot grant itself access to arbitrary process secrets:

The command writes a unique evidence-bundle directory containing the selected report formats and bundle-manifest.json. Verify it offline:

For nondeterministic targets, configure repeated trials in the engagement manifest. The request preflight includes every trial in the minimum budget:

After reviewing a finding, extract the shortest variant that already demonstrated each objective:

This selects from observed successful evidence. It does not claim adaptive or globally minimal delta debugging.
If a run is interrupted, resume the atomic checkpoint. Completed variants are not sent again. Failed variants are retried when rerun_errors is enabled.

Configure execution.checkpoint_hmac_env before the first checkpointed run. The named environment
variable must contain at least 32 UTF-8 bytes. Resume rejects missing or invalid authentication by
default. Record the printed checkpoint integrity value in trusted engagement state and supply it
with --resume-integrity; this prevents an older authentic checkpoint from being substituted
silently. A resumed run that records prior requests waits one full configured request interval
before its first new dispatch. --allow-unauthenticated-resume exists only for consciously reviewed legacy
evidence.
Compare a current report with an approved baseline:

Exit code 0 means the configured gate passed, 1 means findings or regressions were detected, and 2 means execution or evidence validation failed.
Comparison rejects incomplete checkpoints and requires the authenticated target contracts and
execution selections to match, so unexecuted cases, filtered strategies, changed trial settings,
changed seeds, shifted generated-job coverage, changed attack inputs, or adapter changes cannot be
reported as resolved findings. --allow-corpus-change permits changed job inputs only when total
and per-case/per-strategy coverage remains equal.

Remote HTTP is rejected unless allow_insecure_http: true is explicitly recorded. DNS hostnames also require allow_unpinned_dns: true plus controlled network egress. Query parameters require an explicit allowed_query_parameters entry, while credential-like query names and embedded URL credentials are always rejected. Remote manifest values do not authorize themselves. The execution command must independently repeat the authorization reference, network capabilities, and ceilings for requests, rate, concurrency, retries, timeout, trials, variants, response bytes, and evidence bytes. Built-in HTTP clients ignore ambient proxy variables and reject custom Host headers.
Manifest-derived corpus, extra-body, output, and checkpoint paths are confined beneath the
manifest directory after symlink resolution. Use --allow-external-paths only after reviewing
every external path. Existing checkpoint files are not overwritten unless they are the selected
resume file or --overwrite-checkpoint is supplied.

Corpora and oracles
Every case has a stable ID, reviewable objective, practitioner-assigned severity, tags, and an oracle. Supported corpus oracles are:

Prefer synthetic LAB_ canaries and deterministic signals. Refusal phrases alone are not reliable evidence.
Extension boundary
Third-party packages can expose a zero-argument strategy factory through the advent_prompt_pwn.strategies entry-point group:

Plugins execute in the assessor's Python process and must be reviewed before installation. They are not a security boundary.
Authorization and evidence handling
Use this project only for systems you own, intentionally vulnerable labs, public research benchmarks, or targets covered by explicit written authorization. Use simulated tools that cannot send messages, change production data, make purchases, or execute commands.
Reports can contain sensitive model output. Redaction is defense in depth and cannot recognize every secret. Store bundles as confidential engagement evidence. SHA-256 attempt, report, and bundle hashes detect accidental or unauthorized modification. Checkpoint HMAC authentication prevents forgery when its key remains secret, while the independently retained expected checkpoint digest detects substitution of an older authentic checkpoint. The CLI flushes each checkpoint candidate identity before its atomic write so trusted engagement logs can retain the latest accepted candidate. Saved baseline comparisons authenticate both reports with the same HMAC key. Use a separately authenticated evidence store or signing process when authorship and non-repudiation matter.
Remote DNS names are disabled by default because a hostname allowlist does not pin the connected
address. When an authorized target requires DNS, record allow_unpinned_dns: true, enforce the
approved destination at the network layer, and use controlled DNS. Prefer an approved IP literal
when the target contract supports it.
