Aesop Agentic
A local archive for AI conversations, coding sessions, and agent histories.
Aesop preserves histories from the tools you already use, keeps original records alongside readable transcripts, and mirrors the archive to your backup destinations. It reads source stores without modifying them and reports gaps in coverage explicitly.

Features
- Collect local histories. Preserve persisted sessions from Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, Gemini CLI, Pi, and other supported applications.
- Import account exports. Keep official ChatGPT and Claude exports, with optional isolated browser collection between exports.
- Read your archive. Browse and search transcripts in a local browser interface, inspect status in the terminal dashboard, or use the generated Markdown library.
- Retain provenance. Keep raw artifacts, checksums, source metadata, and content-addressed session revisions. Large mutable databases use verified latest snapshots.
- Back up and verify. Mirror to local storage, rclone, or Git LFS, then check integrity and test a restore.
- Schedule on macOS. Install a native Aesop Agentic launcher and background service with configurable notifications.
Install
Requires Python 3.11 or newer. Aesop is macOS-first. Install in a virtual environment:
python3 -m venv ~/.venvs/aesop-agentic
source ~/.venvs/aesop-agentic/bin/activate
python -m pip install aesop-agentic
Choose a permanent archive workspace, then create your configuration:
mkdir -p ~/Aesop
cd ~/Aesop
aesop setup
aesop preferences --ui browser
aesop browser
Opening the interface does not start collection. Review your sources and backup destinations before the first run: setup uses ~/Aesop/data in this example and configures an iCloud Drive mirror by default.
The PyPI package includes the command line, terminal dashboard, and browser interface. The optional Tauri desktop window requires a source build. See the installation guide for browser capture, upgrades, and macOS service setup.
Coverage and Privacy
Readable coverage depends on what each application persists. Unknown formats remain archived as opaque evidence; browser captures remain partial. Aesop cannot recover deleted or never-saved conversations, and successful discovery does not prove complete account coverage.
Archives may contain private conversations, code, and attachments. Browser authentication profiles stay outside the mirrored archive. Review the privacy guide and coverage reference before choosing backup destinations.
Development
See Contributing for source installation, tests, and documentation previews, and Release Process for local workflow testing and publishing.
Aesop Agentic is developed by Colin Conwell and distributed under the GNU General Public License v3.
