- Orderbook: Live order book updates with configurable depth
- Public Trades: Recent trade executions
- Klines/Candlesticks: OHLCV data with various intervals
- Liquidations: Liquidation events

🔧 Quick Start
Simple WebSocket Manager Usage
import asyncio
from aiopybit import ByBitClient
client = ByBitClient(API_KEY, API_SECRET, MODE)
async def handle_ticker(data):
ticker = data.get('data', {})
symbol = ticker.get('symbol', 'N/A')
price = ticker.get('lastPrice', 'N/A')
print(f'📊 {symbol}: ${price}')
async def main():
await client.ws.subscribe_to_ticker(
category='spot', symbol='BTCUSDT', on_message=handle_ticker
)
try:
while True:
await asyncio.sleep(1)
except KeyboardInterrupt:
pass
await client.close()
if __name__ == '__main__':
asyncio.run(main())
The examples/ directory contains comprehensive usage examples:
stream_tickers.py— stream public ticker datastream_private.py— stream private order/position/wallet updatesrest_api.py— REST trading and market-data callserror_handling.py— catching API and HTTP errors
Recommended: Async Context Manager
ByBitClient is an async context manager. Using async with guarantees that
the HTTP session and every WebSocket connection are closed on exit:
import asyncio
from aiopybit import ByBitClient
async def main():
async with ByBitClient(API_KEY, API_SECRET, 'mainnet') as client:
ticker = await client.get_tickers('linear', 'BTCUSDT')
print(ticker['result']['list'][0]['lastPrice'])
if __name__ == '__main__':
asyncio.run(main())
⚠️ Error Handling
Every error raised by the library derives from ByBitError, so you can catch
that single base class or handle specific failures:
from aiopybit import ByBitAPIError, ByBitHTTPError, ByBitError
try:
await client.create_order('linear', 'BTCUSDT', 'Buy', 'Market', 1)
except ByBitAPIError as exc:
# The request reached ByBit but was rejected (non-zero retCode).
print(exc.ret_code, exc.ret_msg)
except ByBitHTTPError as exc:
# Transport-level failure (non-2xx HTTP status).
print(exc.status)
except ByBitError:
# Any other AioPyBit error.
...
| Exception | Raised when |
|---|---|
ByBitError |
Base class for all library errors |
ByBitHTTPError |
The response has a non-successful HTTP status code |
ByBitAPIError |
ByBit returns a non-zero retCode (carries ret_code, ret_msg) |
ByBitAuthError |
WebSocket authentication fails or credentials are missing |
Requests are retried automatically with exponential backoff on transient connection/timeout errors before the error is finally raised.
🖼️ Trading Cards
The optional aiopybit.cards module renders shareable Bybit-style ROI/PnL
cards — the kind you can post to a Telegram or Discord channel. Install the
extra first: pip install "aiopybit[cards]".
from aiopybit.cards import BybitCardGenerator
generator = BybitCardGenerator()
# Save to a file...
generator.save_card(
symbol='BTCUSDT',
direction='Long', # 'Long' or 'Short'
leverage=100,
entry_price=20000,
market_price=41850.5,
output_path='card.png',
)
# ...or get raw bytes to send straight to a bot.
image_bytes = generator.get_card_bytes('BTCUSDT', 'Long', 100, 20000, 41850.5)
ROI is computed automatically from the entry/market price, direction and
leverage, and the colours switch between green (profit) and red (loss). A
Bybit-style background and the IBM Plex Sans fonts are bundled, so no extra
assets are required (you can still pass your own background_image_path /
fonts_dir).
Example output:
See examples/generate_card.py for building a
card directly from a live position.
🔐 Authentication
For private streams, you need ByBit API credentials:
- Create account at ByBit
- Go to API Management
- Create new API key with appropriate permissions
- Use testnet for development: ByBit Testnet
Required Permissions for Private Streams
- Read: For position, wallet, and order data
- Trade: For order and execution streams (if trading)
