aviconv-notam

Bidirectional NOTAM (ICAO Annex 15) parser, formatter, GeoJSON renderer, and AIXM Event converter — part of the aviconv family.

Status: Phase 1 in progress — public release planned as 0.1.0. Until then this package is dev0-tagged on the workspace and not published to PyPI.

Install

pip install aviconv-notam

What it will do (Phase 1 deliverables)

  • Parse ICAO NOTAM text into a typed Notam model (Q-line, Items A–G, schedule mini-grammar for Item D, embedded coordinate extraction in Item E).

  • Re-emit canonical ICAO text (byte-stable round-trip on the fixture corpus).

  • Render the active area as GeoJSON (Q-line circle + Item E polygons).

  • Convert to/from AIXM 5.1.1 Event Schema (BASELINE TimeSlice).

  • Provide a Click sub-command group mounted on the aviconv console script:

SNOWTAM / ASHTAM (0.2.0)

aviconv_notam.snowtam / aviconv_notam.ashtam parse and format the PANS-AIM (Doc 10066) special-series NOTAM formats — GRF SNOWTAM runway-surface-condition reports and volcanic-ash ASHTAMs — into typed, round-trip-honest pydantic models. See docs/packages/notam.md for the item reference and worked examples, or:

aviconv notam snowtam grf.txt --year 2026 > snowtam.json
aviconv notam ashtam  ashtam.txt --year 2026 > ashtam.json

SNOWTAM → AIXM 5.2 (0.3.0)

aviconv_notam.snowtam_aixm converts a parsed Snowtam to/from an AIXM 5.2 Basic Message (AIXM-516 Runway/RunwayContamination feature family, BASELINE TimeSlices, one member per runway group). The reader is metadata-round-trip only, mirroring aixm_event's own 5.1.1 reader. See docs/packages/notam.md for the item mapping, or:

aviconv notam snowtam-to-aixm grf.txt --year 2026 > snowtam.xml

License

MIT. AIXM 5.1.1 + 5.2 XSDs (BSD-3) and GML 3.2.1 XSDs (OGC) are bundled under LICENSES/ from PR 9 onward.
