A comprehensive Python utility library for 32+ AWS services with 64 modules. Every module provides clean, typed helper functions backed by Pydantic data models, TTL-aware cached boto3 clients, automatic pagination, built-in wait_for_* polling helpers, and complex multi-step utilities for real-world workflows. Includes dedicated multi-service orchestration modules for config loading, deployments, alerting, and data pipelines.

Installation

pip install aws-util

Requirements

  • Python 3.10+
  • boto3
  • pydantic >= 2.0
  • cryptography >= 42.0 (for KMS envelope encryption)
  • aiohttp >= 3.9 (for native async aws_util.aio modules)
  • AWS credentials configured (environment variables, IAM role, or ~/.aws/credentials)

This package ships a PEP 561 py.typed marker — mypy and pyright will pick up all type annotations automatically.

Native Async (aws_util.aio)

Every module above has a native async counterpart under aws_util.aio. The async package uses a custom engine (aws_util.aio._engine) built on aiohttp for true non-blocking HTTP, with botocore handling only serialization and request signing. The engine includes built-in circuit breaking, adaptive retry, and connection pooling.

Key features:

  • Same signatures and return types as the sync modules -- Pydantic models are imported directly from the sync layer.
  • AsyncClient.call(operation, **params) for single API calls.
  • AsyncClient.paginate(operation, result_key, ...) for auto-pagination.
  • AsyncClient.wait_until(operation, check_fn, ...) for polling waiters.
  • Decorator factories (e.g. idempotent_handler, retry_with_backoff, cold_start_tracker) return async wrappers that use asyncio.sleep and asyncio.wait_for.
  • Pure-compute functions (e.g. parse_event, lambda_response, emit_emf_metric) are re-exported directly from the sync module.
