Cert Scout
Cert Scout retrieves, validates, deduplicates, and selects CA certificates and CRLs from file, directory, Git, and TLS sources. It writes trust material for downstream consumers; consumers handle installation into system trust stores.
Install
Use Python 3.11 or newer with OpenSSL installed. Git is required for Git sources. PyPI hosts the authoritative releases:
python3 -m pip install certscout
Optional extras: certscout[color] for colored logs and certscout[validate]
for offline configuration validation. Options can be combined in a comma
separated list (e.g., certscout[color,validate]).
Retrieve certificates
Copy the example configuration, replace its placeholder locations, and remove sources you do not need. The example guide explains all four source types.
cp examples/certscout.toml certscout.toml
certscout --config certscout.toml
Output defaults to certs/ and crls/ relative to the configuration file.
Retrieval fails if no CA certificates pass selection.
