Chicago Requests

Bulk downloader for 311 Requests from the Chicago Open311 API.

To install:

> pip install chicagorequests

To use

Today's Requests

To download today's requests, run:

> chicagorequests

The program will output the requests as line-delimited json. To turn this into a standard json file, you can use a program like jq.

> chicagorequests | jq -s '.'

Date Range Request

To download all requests within a time span:

> chicagorequests --start-date=2021-01-01 --end-date=2021-01-14

Limit to specific request types

To download grafitti removal requests made today:

> chicagorequests -t graffiti_removal 

You can specify more than one type of request

> chicagorequests -t graffiti_removal -t pothole 

To get help

> chicagorequests --help
Usage: chicagorequests [OPTIONS]

  Download service requests from the Chicago Open311 API. By default, today's
  requests of all types. Will write service requests as line-delimited JSON to
  stdout.

Options:
  -s, --start-date [%Y-%m-%d]  the first day of the time range to check
  -e, --end-date [%Y-%m-%d]    the last day of the time range to check
  -t, --request-type TEXT      service types to fetch
  -v, --verbose                verbosity level
  --list-request-types         list valid request types
  --help                       Show this message and exit.
