Citation Title

citation-title reduces an already segmented Philippine Supreme Court decision title to a concise, readable citation title. It recognizes adversarial cases and In re-style matters, removes non-title material, and applies the repository's established party-name and institutional shorthands.

It is deliberately conservative. Long captions and multi-party captions are accepted when their structure identifies the parties; a short caption with an ambiguous bare V. is not guessed. In that situation, the package returns None so the calling workflow can retain the source title or route it for review.

It works alongside citation-report in the LawSQL citation-processing ecosystem: report extraction identifies the reporter citation, while this package shortens the decision-title evidence supplied by the calling workflow.

Using the Result

• The source title remains the legal evidence and should be retained.
• The returned value is a compact display title, not a replacement for the source record.
• None means that the package could not identify a title safely. It does not mean that the decision has no title.
