cobol-migrator
cobol-migrator is a command-line interface that orchestrates GitHub Copilot
CLI to modernize COBOL/DB2 applications into a tested Python FastAPI and Vue
implementation. Its migration prompt enforces Red-Green-Refactor TDD and can
deploy the generated application to Azure with the Azure Developer CLI.
Prerequisites
- Python 3.10 or later
- GitHub Copilot CLI
- An active GitHub Copilot subscription
- Azure Developer CLI (
azd) for thedeploycommand
Install
pip install cobol-migrator
Use
Run commands from the project directory containing the legacy source. The
defaults expect COBOL under legacy/ and write the modern application to
app/; use --source, --target, or --root to override them.
cobol-migrate analyze --model claude-sonnet-4.5
cobol-migrate migrate --model claude-sonnet-4.5
cobol-migrate test
cobol-migrate deploy
cobol-migrate all --model auto
Use --dry-run with migration or deployment commands to inspect the action
without invoking Copilot or Azure.
