colddigger

Simple Python based utility to identify "cold" files in a git repository: tracked files in your main (or other) branch that are not touched in other local or remote branches.

Intended use case: identify files that are safe to manipulate heavily (e.g. automated code style cleanup) without risk on merge conflicts with other branches or pull requests.

Install and usage

This package is available on PyPI and can be installed using classic pip (pip install colddigger), which makes the utility available in your (virtual) environment as a command line tool colddigger.

However, if you just need this utility for a one-off run, and you have uv in your tool belt, you can avoid installation worries and run it directly with uvx:

uvx colddigger --help
