glacier-microbiome-succession-utac

GenesisAeon Package 129 — real deglaciation-succession and glacier-fed- stream (GFS) microbiome science. Deliberately has no UTAC/CREP/AFET bridge — see DISCLAIMER.md.

For a plain-language explanation of the same topic (German, no jargon, written for general audiences), see WHITEPAPER.md.

Where this package came from

Surfaced as a specific recommendation in an external "Deep Research" audit of apps-hub (2026-09-05) — independently re-verified from open-access sources before building, not copied from the audit's own citation text. See PACKAGE_REGISTRY.md's "External deep-research audit" section.

What's real here

  • Losapio et al. (2025, Nature Reviews Biodiversity) — deglaciation drives a real, non-monotonic biodiversity response: an initial habitat-availability peak, then homogenization and local-to-regional decline — not a simple "glaciers melt, biodiversity drops" story.
  • Ezzat, Peter, Bourquin et al. (2025, Nature) — the first global atlas of the GFS bacterial microbiome, 152 streams across Earth's major mountain ranges: 62.2% of bacterial ASVs are range-specific, only 0.42% (165 ASVs) form a cosmopolitan core. This microbiome is not globally uniform.
  • Bourquin, Peter et al. (2025, Nature Communications) — 2070–2100 (SSP3) projections for 164 GFS: streamwater temperature +306.7%, conductivity +88.2%, turbidity −44.4%, benthic chlorophyll‑a +339.7%, bacterial abundance +88.5%, bacterial Shannon diversity +6.2%, mean nearest taxon distance +3.5% (all median relative change, with reported IQRs).

Deliberately not one-sided

do_large_relative_percentages_imply_large_absolute_change() returns False — GFS are cold, near-freezing systems, so a modest absolute warming produces a huge relative percentage almost mechanically; +306.7% does not mean "the stream got three times hotter" in any everyday sense.

does_this_package_recompute_p99_peak_water() and does_this_package_recompute_p123_rle_status() both return False — this package is related to, but does not duplicate or validate, glacier-buffer-utac (P99), freshwater-ecosystem-stressors-utac (P106), or tropical-glacier-ecosystem-rle-utac (P123).

Quickstart

pip install glacier-microbiome-succession-utac
from glacier_microbiome_succession_utac import (
    initial_biodiversity_response,
    is_gfs_microbiome_globally_uniform,
    temperature_change_pct,
    do_large_relative_percentages_imply_large_absolute_change,
)

print(initial_biodiversity_response())  # "peak"
print(is_gfs_microbiome_globally_uniform())  # False
print(temperature_change_pct())  # (306.7, (87.9, 633.1))
print(do_large_relative_percentages_imply_large_absolute_change())  # False

Development

pip install -e ".[dev]"
pre-commit install
ruff check src tests
mypy src
pytest
