Jira AI Agent — Powered by Parth
An AI-powered Jira CLI assistant that lets you manage Jira using natural language directly from your terminal.
Powered by Parth
🚀 Installation
Install the package directly from PyPI:
pip install jira-ai-agent-parth
After installation, start the Jira AI Agent with:
jira-ai
🧠 What is Jira AI Agent?
Jira AI Agent allows you to interact with your Jira workspace using normal language instead of manually navigating through Jira.
For example, instead of manually searching for an issue, you can simply ask:
Get details of SCRUM-1
Or:
Show me all issues from the SCRUM project
The AI Agent understands your request and uses Jira APIs to perform the required operation.
⚙️ First-Time Setup
When you run:
jira-ai
for the first time, you need to configure your Jira and AI credentials.
You will need:
- Jira URL
- Jira Email
- Jira API Token
- Mistral API Key
🤖 Recommended AI Model — Mistral AI
This project currently recommends Mistral AI.
Mistral provides API access that is simple to configure and is a good option for running this Jira AI Agent.
Generate your Mistral API Key
Open:
Create an account or log in.
Then generate a new API key.
Copy the API key and keep it safe.
Never share your API key publicly.
When the Jira AI Agent asks for your Mistral API key, paste the generated key.
🔐 Jira Configuration
You will also need your Jira credentials.
Jira URL
Enter your Jira workspace URL.
Example:
https://your-company.atlassian.net
Jira Email
Use the email address associated with your Jira account.
Example:
your-email@example.com
Jira API Token
Generate a Jira API token from your Atlassian account.
Open:
https://id.atlassian.com/manage-profile/security/api-tokens
Create a new API token and copy it.
Never share your Jira API token publicly.
🛠️ Configuration
During the first run, the CLI will ask you for the required configuration.
The configuration includes:
Jira URL
Jira Email
Jira API Token
Mistral API Key
The configuration is stored locally on your machine and is used for future sessions.
You do not need to enter the credentials every time you start the application.
🔄 Change Configuration
If you want to change your Jira credentials or Mistral API key later, you don't need to reinstall the package.
Run:
jira-ai config
You can then update your configuration.
For example, you can change:
- Jira URL
- Jira email
- Jira API token
- Mistral API key
- AI model configuration
After changing the configuration, simply start the agent again:
jira-ai
💬 Using the Jira AI Agent
Start the application:
jira-ai
You will see:
Jira AI Agent started.
Type 'exit' to quit.
You can now communicate with Jira using natural language.
🔎 Get Issue Details
Example:
Get details of SCRUM-1
The agent can return information such as:
- Issue key
- Summary
- Status
- Priority
- Description
- Assignee
- Other available issue information
📋 Search Issues
Example:
Show me all issues from the SCRUM project
You can also ask natural-language questions such as:
Find all issues in the SCRUM project
or:
Show me the issues currently in progress
✏️ Update an Issue
Example:
Update SCRUM-2 summary
The agent will ask what you want the new summary to be.
For example:
Implement OAuth and Google authentication
Before performing important updates, the agent can ask for confirmation.
🗑️ Delete an Issue
Example:
Delete SCRUM-2
Because deletion is a destructive operation, make sure you confirm the operation before allowing the agent to perform it.
💬 Add a Comment
Example:
Add a comment to SCRUM-1
The agent will ask for the comment text.
For example:
Development has started on this issue.
👤 Assign an Issue
Example:
Assign SCRUM-1 to John
The agent can use Jira users available to your account to identify the appropriate assignee.
If the user cannot be identified, provide the user's Jira account information when requested.
🔄 Change Issue Status
Example:
Move SCRUM-1 to Done
The agent can check the available Jira transitions and perform the requested transition when it is available in your Jira workflow.
🧩 Natural Language
You don't have to remember exact commands.
You can simply describe what you want.
For example:
What is the status of SCRUM-1?
Show me SCRUM issues.
Who is assigned to SCRUM-1?
Add a comment saying development has started on SCRUM-1.
Change SCRUM-1 priority.
Move SCRUM-1 to Done.
The AI Agent will determine which Jira operation is required.
🔒 Security
Your Jira credentials and AI API keys are sensitive information.
Never share:
Jira API Token
Mistral API Key
Do not commit these values to GitHub or any public repository.
If you believe a token has been exposed, revoke it and generate a new one.
