To run kash with text, research, and general document actions enabled, ensure you have uv set up then:
# Pin GIL 3.13. Bare `uv tool install` / `uvx` / `uv python find 3.14`
# may pick freethreaded 3.14t, which is unsupported.
uv tool install kash-docs --upgrade --force --python 3.13
kash
GIL CPython 3.14 also works if you pass that interpreter explicitly.
--python 3.14 is not enough when uv resolves 3.14t.
PDF/DOCX conversion and AWS publishing are optional so downstream tools such as Deep Transcribe do not install unrelated runtimes:
uv tool install "kash-docs[documents]" --upgrade --force --python 3.13
uv tool install "kash-docs[aws]" --upgrade --force --python 3.13
uv tool install "kash-docs[full]" --upgrade --force --python 3.13
The documents extra provides MarkItDown, PDF rendering, and DOCX conversion. The
full extra also includes layout-aware PDF conversion and browser automation.
Or for dev builds from within this git repo:
# Install all deps and run tests:
make
# Run kash with all docs kit features enabled:
uv run kash
Model Configuration
Document actions inherit the careful, structured, standard, and fast model roles from kash-shell rather than selecting a provider directly. See the main model configuration documentation for the current Anthropic defaults and equivalent OpenAI settings.
Semantic actions such as descriptions, structural summaries, section headings, and
paragraph research use an item's bounded title, description, and
additional_context metadata. Exact-text and mechanical formatting actions remain
context-free.
