LocalStack CLI
The command-line interface for LocalStack, a cloud service emulator that runs on your laptop or in your CI environment.
Installation
pip install localstack
Requires Docker to be installed and running.
Usage
Start LocalStack:
localstack start
Check service status:
localstack status services
Stop LocalStack:
localstack stop
Releasing
A release has two parts: publish the localstack package to PyPI from this repository, then build the binaries and the Homebrew formula in localstack/localstack-cli. Do both, otherwise binary and Homebrew users stay on the old version.

Create and push a version tag in this repository. Use the
vYYYY.M.PATCHformat:git tag v2026.8.2 git push origin v2026.8.2
The tag push triggers the GitHub Actions workflow, which runs the tests and publishes the
localstackpackage to PyPI. -
Once the new version is on PyPI, bump the pin in
requirements.txtof localstack/localstack-cli (localstack==2026.8.2), commit it tomain, and push the same tag there:git tag v2026.8.2 git push origin v2026.8.2
The tag push builds the PyInstaller binaries and creates a draft GitHub release.

Publish the draft release in localstack/localstack-cli. Publishing triggers the update of the
localstack/tap/localstack-cliHomebrew formula.
