Maneuver Calculus
Maneuver Calculus (MC) is a research alpha for semantic compilation, maintained worlds, and research custody. It includes the existing native compiler, source-locked ontology compiler, persisted world API, and Research SWSS.
Install
Use Python 3.12 or newer in a dedicated virtual environment:
python -m pip install "maneuver-calculus==0.1.0a2"
For development, install from a checkout of the public source repository:
python -m pip install .
The distribution installs all nine pinned dependencies, the complete current
ontology runtime and its 140 source assets, and synthetic Research SWSS fixtures. No
repository clone or PYTHONPATH setting is needed. Use python -X utf8 for the
existing ontology workflows, especially on Windows.
Existing developer workflows
The import names remain mc_mvp, mc_rules_visibility, mc_world,
mc_ontology, research_swss, mc_adapter, and mc_practitioner.
The distribution name is maneuver-calculus; there is no new wrapper API.
Run the supplied native demo from any working directory:
python -I -B -X utf8 -m mc_mvp demo --output ./mc-demo
The existing authoring runner admits your Turtle through
WorldSession.admit_ontology, saves the snapshot, query, and incident projection,
and replays the persisted result in a fresh process:
python -I -B -X utf8 -m author_case --source ./my-case.ttl --context urn:my-project:context --at 10 --out ./my-case-run
python -I -B -X utf8 -m author_case --replay ./my-case-run
Use a fresh output directory for a new authored case. Optional --inputs,
--requests, and --advance-to retain their existing meanings. Application
integration uses mc_world.pipeline.WorldSession and its admit_ontology,
query_ontology, project_ontology, and advance methods. Native applications
use mc_mvp.Compiler and mc_mvp.History.
Research SWSS retains its existing CLI:
python -I -B -X utf8 -m research_swss --world ./mc-research init
python -I -B -X utf8 -m research_swss --help
Its fixture contains invented repositories and a public-literature curator snapshot. Local initialization and the supplied native demo make no provider calls. Live model integrations need your own explicit configuration.
Package documentation and examples are installed as resources beside the modules.
Use importlib.resources.files("mc_ontology") to locate its README.md,
examples, and byte-pinned sources directory. The same resource API locates
mc_world/PIPELINE_API.md and research_swss/README.md.
Research status and identity
0.1.0a2 versions this Python distribution. It preserves the existing native
mc-mvp-core/1.0.1 and ontology mc-ontology-core/0.3.1-public.2 identities.
Current semantic rules and source pins are unchanged. Ontology admission and replay
support mc-ontology-core/0.3.1-public.2; the three pre-publication runtimes are
excluded and older identities receive a clear unsupported-version error. Replay
under an older identity requires its corresponding archived package. Packaging
does not confer full MC-SPEC conformance.
The source-governance acceptance gate and the unqualified status of historical
model adapters remain as documented in the source release. Research records and
ontology instance graphs remain separate workflows.
Two known ontology defects remain open:
- Equivalent detector-face identities can cause a declared dependency to be ignored and permit unsupported absence-based elimination, including a falsely forced explanation.
- An unrelated health computation can introduce another evaluation context and suppress valid reconstruction paths; the resulting search is marked incomplete.
Native receipt, typing, key, cache, and observability limitations also remain.
Review the
known limitations
before interpreting results. full_ontology_verified remains false.
The public repository is a derivative of the reviewed research-alpha candidate. Repository metadata, documentation, and release automation have changed; current runtime code and ontology source pins retain their reviewed identities. The source identity record distinguishes the original candidate evidence from this repository.
