MCP Document Reader
An MCP server that can extract text from PDF and DOCX files.
Installation
pip install mcp-document-reader
Usage
With Claude Desktop
- Install the package:
pip install mcp-document-reader - Run:
mcp install mcp-document-reader - Restart Claude Desktop
With Cursor
Add the following to your ~/.cursor/mcp.json file:

Features
- Extract text from PDF files
- Extract text from DOCX files
- Access documents from your Recent folder
Development
- Clone the repository
- Install development dependencies:
uv add --dev -e . - Run tests:
pytest
