📜 The code is open and free to use for research and academic purposes.
📖 Overview
This repository implements the Nonlinear Autoregressive Distributed Lag (NARDL) and Fourier NARDL models in Python.
It allows researchers to estimate both short- and long-run asymmetries between variables, with optional Fourier terms to capture smooth structural breaks and nonlinear dynamics.
The model automatically:
- Decomposes regressors into positive and negative partial sums,
- Performs lag selection using
AICorBIC, - Computes short-run and long-run asymmetries (Wald tests),
- Runs diagnostic tests for residuals,
- Plots dynamic and cumulative multipliers,
- Performs CUSUM and CUSUMSQ stability tests.
⚙️ Installation
Ensure the following Python libraries are installed:
pip install numpy pandas scipy statsmodels matplotlib
import pandas as pd
import numpy as np
from nardl import NARDL
import pandas as pd
import numpy as np
from nardl import NARDL
## Example of use
# --- Simulated data ---
np.random.seed(42)
n = 150
x = np.cumsum(np.random.normal(0, 1, n))
z = np.cumsum(np.random.normal(0, 1, n))
y = 0.5 * x + 0.3 * z + np.random.normal(0, 1, n)
data = pd.DataFrame({'y': y, 'x': x, 'z': z})
# --- Estimate NARDL model ---
model = NARDL(formula='y ~ z | x', data=data, maxlag=3, ic='AIC', type='simple')
model.summary()
# --- Plot dynamic multipliers ---
model.plot_multipliers(variable='x')
# --- Plot CUSUM and CUSUMSQ stability tests ---
from nardl import plot_nardl
plot_nardl(model, which='both')
# --- Estimate Fourier NARDL model ---
model_fourier = NARDL(formula='y ~ z | x', data=data, maxlag=3, k=3, ic='AIC', type='fourier')
model_fourier.summary()
# --- Plot dynamic multipliers ---
model_fourier.plot_multipliers(variable='x')
# --- Plot stability tests ---
plot_nardl(model_fourier, which='cusumsq')
