OpenEquine
OpenEquine is a comprehensive Python package for modern equine application development. The package is being published by openequine.org.
pip install openequine
Validate Standards
openequine.validatestandards validates horse profiles against the
Open Equine Data Standards (OEDS) Equine Profile Standard.
Supported standard versions: 1.0.
from openequine import validatestandards
profile = {
"horseName": "Rajputana Bahadur",
"dob": "2019-03-15",
"breed": "Marwari",
"gender": "stallion",
"color": "Bay",
"meta": {"schemaVersion": "1.0", "createdAt": "2026-04-07T10:30:00Z"},
}
validatestandards.is_valid(profile) # True or False
validatestandards.is_valid(profile, version="1.0") # against a specific standard version
validatestandards.check(profile) # list of error messages, empty if valid
validatestandards.validate(profile) # raises validatestandards.ProfileError if invalid
validatestandards.load_schema("1.0") # the standard's schema as a dict
version defaults to the latest supported standard version. An unsupported version raises ValueError.
Field names, required fields and formats follow the standard's schema exactly. See the data dictionary for the meaning of each field.
