Oremi Izwi

Oremi Izwi stands as the auditory cornerstone of the Oremi project, a revolutionary initiative aimed at redefining the personal assistant landscape.

Leveraging cutting-edge TTS (Text-to-Speech) technology powered by Supertonic, this module effortlessly transforms textual inputs into rich, lifelike speech, elevating user interactions to a whole new level of realism and immersion. Notably, Oremi Izwi supports streaming TTS endpoints, ensuring seamless and uninterrupted delivery of audio content for an even smoother user experience.

The name Oremi Izwi combines rich African linguistic traditions to embody its core mission. Oremi is derived from the Yoruba phrase (Ọrẹ́ mi) meaning "my friend", while Izwi comes from the Zulu word for "voice". Together, Oremi Izwi translates to "My Friend's Voice", representing a personal assistant framework designed to communicate with warmth, clarity, and familiarity, transforming mere commands into engaging conversations.

Development

Oremi Izwi is built with Python and uses uv for dependency management. The project follows standard Python development practices with type hints, linting, and automated testing.

Versioning

Given a version number MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH, increment the:

• MAJOR version when you make incompatible API changes,
• MINOR version when you add functionality in a backwards-compatible manner, and
• PATCH version when you make backwards-compatible bug fixes.

Additional labels for pre-release and build metadata are available as extensions to the MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH format.
