peterdemartini-mtgdata-p01
An encrypted MTGJSON card-data snapshot, and the code to unpack it, for the author's mtg-skills Claude Cowork bundle. The sandbox those skills run in can install from PyPI but can't reach mtgjson.com, so this package is how the skills get their card data.
The data files are encrypted (AES-256-GCM). Without the key the package is of no use, so please don't depend on it. If you want MTGJSON data, download it from mtgjson.com.
Usage (for key holders)
import peterdemartini_mtgdata_p01 as mtgdata
mtgdata.info() # snapshot date, MTGJSON version, files
mtgdata.extract("~/mtgjson") # verify, decrypt, decompress; returns the paths
MTG_DATA_KEY=... python -m peterdemartini_mtgdata_p01 extract --dest ~/mtgjson
extract checks every file against the sha256 in the (encrypted) manifest, and
only replaces files in dest after all of them verify.
This release
MTGJSON snapshot of 2026-09-24 (MTGJSON 5.3.0+20260924), holding
AllPrintings.json and AllPricesToday.json. Versions are the snapshot date,
and a new one is published weekly.
License
The code is MIT licensed. The card data comes from MTGJSON (MIT). Magic: The Gathering card names and text are © Wizards of the Coast. This project isn't affiliated with Wizards of the Coast or MTGJSON.
