Pillow-AllSIMD

Pillow-AllSIMD is a fork of Pillow-SIMD, the SIMD build of Pillow, the friendly PIL fork. It is a drop-in replacement for the Pillow version it follows (now 13.0.0): the same PIL package and API, with SIMD kernels for x86-64 (SSE4, AVX2, AVX-VNNI) and arm64 (NEON). By default a fast mode trades a few levels of precision for speed in some operations; exact mode follows Pillow’s arithmetic.

Status: beta. It is published as a source package and compiles on installation, so the libraries that building Pillow from source needs must be installed. It installs the PIL package: install your other packages first, then replace Pillow with it:

python3 -m pip uninstall -y pillow pillow-simd
python3 -m pip install -C simd=avx2 pillow-allsimd

Without -C simd=... the build uses SSE4.1 on x86 and NEON on arm64; avx2 suits x86 CPUs since Intel Haswell and AMD Excavator, except some Pentium, Celeron and Atom models. See the repository for the other options, what is accelerated, how it is tested and the benchmarks.

Pillow is by Jeffrey ‘Alex’ Clark and contributors, on PIL by Fredrik Lundh and Secret Labs AB; Pillow-SIMD by Alexander Karpinsky and contributors, supported by Uploadcare. Licensed under the MIT-CMU License, like them.
