VCS PySTAC extension

PySTAC implementation of the VCS STAC Extension v0.1.0.

Use VcsExtension.ext() for version-control metadata on Catalogs, Collections, Items, Assets, and Links. See the VCS tutorial and architecture guide for runnable examples and validation boundaries.

This project is templated a Hatch-based Python package with:

• Keep a Changelog-compatible CHANGELOG.md
• Diátaxis documentation under docs/
• top-level mkdocs.yaml

To preview it locally:

python -m pip install . "mkdocs<2" mkdocs-material "mkdocstrings[python]"
mkdocs serve

Local quality checks

Install Hatch and Taskfiles then install the Git hook:

task quality:pre-commit:install

Every commit runs Ruff (including the configured McCabe complexity limit), Ruff formatting, strict mypy checks, and the pytest suite.

Run the complete hook explicitly with:

task quality:pre-commit:run
