pytest-exec-core
Core execution engine for an HTTP-triggered pytest runner.
This package provides the building blocks used to launch test suites and process their results:
- Output parsing & summarisation — turn raw pytest console output into a compact pass/fail/skip summary with extracted failure reasons.
- Exception-chain reporting — render every failure's complete exception chain, including each link of a chained traceback, as a diff-formatted report that renders with colour in tools that highlight by file extension.
- Input provisioning — assemble a tar archive of test inputs (plugins, test payloads, environment overrides) and collect output artifacts back out.
- Command assembly — build the
pytestcommand line (xdist workers, plugins, payload file, log file) and resolve a test case path safely.
Install
pip install pytest-exec-core
Usage
from pytest_exec_core import (
build_summary,
build_error_report,
payload_map,
build_provision_tar,
collect_artifacts,
build_cmd,
resolve_case,
CasePathError,
)
Summary vs. error report
build_summary answers which tests failed; build_error_report answers
why. The latter keeps every E line pytest emitted, so a chained failure
such as a TLS handshake timeout surfacing as a read timeout still shows the
original cause rather than only the outermost exception.
from pathlib import Path
from pytest_exec_core import build_error_report
report = build_error_report(Path("pytest.out"), labels={"test_login": "Login"})
Path("error.diff").write_text(report)
labels maps a test to a display name; keys may be the full node id, the
parametrisation id, or the test file's stem. Omit it to fall back to the
payload labels used by build_summary.
