rentctl
This name is reserved for rentctl — a dev-server lease manager for AI coding agents.
AI coding agents start dev servers and forget them. rentctl makes that impossible: agents rent a server instead of owning one. Every server runs under a lease — it dies at session end, at lease expiry, or on request, whichever comes first — and ports are assigned atomically so concurrent sessions never collide.
- Four cleanup layers (agent request, session-end hook, lease expiry watchdog, session-start sweep) — no single one has to be perfect.
- Never kills what it doesn't own: PID + start-time verification before any kill, and a strict refusal to touch processes it didn't start.
- No daemon. Stdio MCP server per session, CLI for hooks and humans, all state on disk.
This 0.0.x release is a placeholder holding the name while the first public release is prepared. The tool exists and is in active pilot use; it ships here once its exit gate — real-world evidence of zero orphaned servers and zero false kills — is met.
