Also, some environment variables are expected to be set. You can add it to ~/.bashrc, or ~/.profile, or wherever your desktop environment searches for exported variables:
export DATAPATH=~/Data
export ANALYSISPATH=~/Analysis
changing the path to where you find appropriate.
