systemd-pyqt-ask-password-agent

In systemd, non-interactive services can ask the user for a password. This is made of 2 parts:

  • background service queries a password for example by running systemd-ask-password --no-tty
  • user-facing client (called "agent" in systemd parlance) asks the password

systemd-pyqt-ask-password-agent is an desktop app that sits in the notification tray most of the time. When a service requests a password using systemd, systemd-pyqt-ask-password-agent pops a password dialog to the user, and sends it back to the service.

How to run it

Once installed, just systemd-pyqt-ask-password-agent is enough. It's also possible to run it through systemd, for example with systemd-run --user --collect -u pyqt-pwd-agent --property=SyslogIdentifier=pyqt-pwd-agent --same-dir systemd-pyqt-ask-password-agent.
