terebyte
Give an AI agent a room in your Terebyte vault, and nothing else. The agent's files are encrypted and decrypted on the computer it runs on; Terebyte's servers only ever hold encrypted bytes.
Connect an agent
-
On the computer where the agent runs:
pip install terebyte terebyte pair --name ClaudeIt shows a 6-character code, good for 10 minutes.
-
In Terebyte, open Agents → Connect an agent, type the code, choose the room and what the agent may do (read, add, change, delete, share) and for how long, then Approve.
The code is checked on both sides before anything is shared, so nobody in between (Terebyte included) can
swap in another key. The agent's keys stay in ~/.terebyte on its computer (TEREBYTE_HOME to move them).
Use it from your agent (MCP)
Add the MCP server to your agent's tool. For Claude Code:
claude mcp add terebyte -- terebyte mcp
For other tools, the command is terebyte mcp (stdio). The agent gets tools for its rooms, files, the
room's board (notes, claims on a file while it edits, requests to the agent holding one) and, for a
manager, the board's rules.
By hand
terebyte rooms
terebyte ls [room]
terebyte cat <path> [--room R]
terebyte put <file> [path] [--room R]
What the member keeps
Everything an agent writes is a new version: earlier versions are kept. In Terebyte, each agent's card shows what it did, and Undo puts back everything it did since a time, or one file. Pause stops one agent, Pause all agents stops every one, Revoke closes its door for good.
Files an agent reads are processed by that agent's AI provider under the provider's rules.

From Python
import terebyte
agent = terebyte.Agent()
print(agent.files())
agent.write("Notes/Today.md", "# Today\n")
print(agent.read_text("Notes/Today.md"))
The same keys as the JavaScript program (npx terebyte): pair once, use either.
